INFORMATION FOR BIRDERS:
The Nest is not only a great venue for a family friendly holiday, but it also serves as a great base for birding in the central Drakensberg. More than 250 species have been recorded in the area around the resort including Secretarybird, Arrow-marked Babbler, White-bellied Bustard, Blue Crane, Red-chested Flufftail, Half-collared Kingfisher, Cape Vulture, and Southern Ground Hornbill. While your family enjoys the various entertainment options available, you can take a leisurely walk around the trail that winds along a river on the resort. Slow drives through the area promises some good roadside birding, while you enjoy the stunning scenery that the area offers. The resort is a short distance from Giants Castle Nature Reserve – which has more than 170 species recorded including Bearded Vulture and Verreaux's Eagle. The Giants Castle Vulture Hide is situated in the Giants Castle Nature Reserve, and a sought after destination for both local and international photographers.
