How to separate Kurrichane and Olive Thrush

For more experienced birders, these two species are not much of a challenge to separate. But for a lot of newer birders, separating the two species can be a challenge.

So, as with the previous bird identification posts, the goal of this post is to give you some simple tips to identify the two species.

Karrichane Thrush

One of the things that we are told to look out for is the malar stripe. I think at times, this can be a tricky thing to use to try to separate it from the Olive Thrush. So here are the things to look out for:

So to separate the two species, simply look for the eye colour, the bill colour, and how extensive the white is on the bird.

To listen to the calls of the two species, plus the Karoo Thrush, I have posted a video from Lynette Rudman's brilliant YouTube Channel.
